Wedding planning is more complex (and costly) than ever. There are so many wedding ideas and people sharing their “pinterest worthy” I dos that it is no wonder that we’ve created the perception of expensive weddings.
If you’re not a celebrity, or a pro athlete, it can be overwhelming to think about the wedding decor and how much money is needed to make it instagram- and pinterest worthy. You’ll be surprised to find that an instagrammable event [on a budget] is easier than you think. Use creative solutions and out-of-the box ideas, and focus on the “feel” and atmosphere of the event, rather than the details and layers.
Here are some of our favorite Pro tips that will bring your visions to life.
1. Items around your home Or the homes of your family members.
Accent chairs, bar trolleys, framed photos of family, wall hangings for room dividers or blankets, cushions, ottomans, and even sofas are all items we’ve seen, used and can easily be transported without renting a van. Look around your house for things that add texture, layers, and interest.
2. Use tons of candles.
Never underestimate the power of light. Candles can be expensive, especially if they are not bought in bulk. Lighting will always be the most affordable way to transform an area. Low lighting can create a warm, intimate atmosphere. Candles of different sizes and heights can add visual interest at a low price.
3. Repurpose your wedding decor.
Use as many decor items as you can. You can save a lot of money by repurposing decor items throughout the day. The bridesmaids’ bouquets can be used to decorate the cake table, lounge vignette tables or food tables.
4. Consider other options than floral centerpieces
Floral is the most obvious option, but it can be the most costly in some instances. If you’re on a budget, choose non-floral centerpieces. These can be anything from photos to books, or even greenery.
5. Lights everywhere.
They add a lot of impact to any indoor or outdoor event at low cost.
6. Rent.
This idea is so important that we can’t emphasize it enough. Rent everything. It is not “cheaper” to buy wedding decor unless you intend to use it as home décor after the event. Rent everything! Rent everything from linens and furniture to champagne buckets.
7. Cover everything with seasonal greenery.
Greenery is a great way to soften up any line or hard surface. It is wrapped and hung around every pole, tent gutter, and rafter. The use of seasonal greenery is cost-effective and can have a significant impact on the overall design.
8. Every photo shows chairs.
Chairs. Yes, they can be expensive, but the chairs you want will make a major impact. If you’re going to spend a lot on anything, we recommend that you buy chairs. They are seen in almost every reception picture, whether it is from a distance or up close.
9. Buy second-hand and borrow.
Buy second-hand items, or borrow from family and friends to add unique pieces to your interior design.
10. Use statement pieces strategically
Think of the places where you’ll be taking more photos than any other. Consider spending your decor budget on the cake/dessert, altar, sweetheart/head table, escort cards table/area, or above the bar. These areas are the most visible, photographed, and where the most memories will be created.
